| Ceramic artists
from around the world are invited to take
part in the 3rd World Ceramic Biennale 2005
Korea (CEBIKO) International Competition.
This grand-scale international event participated
by the world's finest ceramic artists focuses
on defining new values and creative direction
for 21st century ceramics.
This International Competition, one of
the main events of the World Ceramic Biennale,
will be held from April 23 to June 19, 2005
in which ceramic artists from across the
globe will compete in categories of "Ceramics
for Use" and "Ceramics as Expression."
All ceramic artists are eligible to participate,
and the judging panel will comprise venerated
ceramics experts from each continent. The
winners of the competition who show exceptional
talent will receive the largest cash award
ever conferred (Grand Prize:KRW 60 million,
Total : KRW 213 million) to encourage their
spirit of creativity and contribute to the
development of ceramics art around the world.
Fresh and original works by brilliant artists
are expected to be entered at the 3rd CEBIKO
International Competition opening a new
horizon for 21st century ceramics.
1. Categories
1) Part 1 : Ceramics for Use :
All types of ceramic wares including jars,
vases, vessels and dishes and ceramic pieces
or designs that contribute to the development
of aesthetic or functional ceramics.
Ex.) Korean Traditional Tableware, Western
Tableware, Breakfast Sets, Coffee Sets,
Tableware, Tea Sets, Tiles, Lamps, Vases,
Accessories, Dinner Sets, Earthenware, Roof
Tiles,Various Trinkets, etc.
2) Part 2 : Ceramics as Expression :
Pure formative art such as ceramic sculptures
and installations using diverse ceramic
techniques.
Ex.)Ceramic Sculptures, Ceramic Installations,
etc.
*If entrants do not provide an entry category
or submit an entry in the inappropriate
category, the judging panel will make necessary
adjustments upon discussion.
2. Entry Qualification
Any individual or group regardless of age,
gender or nationality may enter. There will
be no size restriction, however no more
than three(3)
submissions combined in
both categories per entrant will be accepted.
3. Theme : No specific
theme is required
The World Ceramic Exposition Foundation(WOCEF)
has not designated a specific theme for
the competition. Entrants are free to express
their innovative and original ideas through
their creativity or future-oriented works,
whether they be "Ceramics for Use"
or "Ceramics as Expression," which
will contribute to the development of the
ceramics industry and ceramics art.
4. Official Languages
: Korean, English
The official languages of the 3rd World
Ceramic Biennale 2005 Korea (CEBIKO) International
Competition will be limited to Korean
and English
5. Awards
The winner of the Grand Prize will be selected
from the best of both "Ceramics for
Use" and "Ceramics as Expression"
categories. All other awards shall be apportioned
equally among both categories.

* Winners of the Grand Prize and Gold Prize
will be invited to the Award Ceremony at
the expense of WOCEF
* The prize money includes the purchase
of the art piece. All
entries that receive awards above the Judge's
Choice Prize shall become the property of
the WOCEF. Any applicable taxes
on prize money shall be the responsibility
of the prizewinner.
* WOECF reserves the right to exhibit, photograph
for catalogues sold at exhibitions, record
on videos and display entries to the competition.
* All contestants will each receive one
copy of the catalogue. In the event of group
entries,each group will receive one copy.

* The results of the preliminary and secondary
screening will be posted on the WOCEF website
and daily newspapers and notified individually.
* The schedule for screening is subject
to change.
- The panel will consist of 5 judges: 2
from Korea, 3 from other countries. The
same panel will conduct both the preliminary
and secondary screening for "Ceramics
for Use" and "Ceramics as Expression"
categories.

9. Shipping
1) Domestic
The applicants shall be responsible for
bringing in and taking out entries for screening.
WOCEF shall not bear any responsibilities
for any damage or loss incurred during the
transportation of the art pieces. Special
care in packaging the art piece by the applicant
is strongly recommended to prevent damage
during transport.
2) Overseas
The actual art pieces shall be sent by the
applicants and returned by WOCEF. The delivery
of entries must be door-to-door(nail-to-nail).
Any expense incurred for art pieces arriving
in Korea via air or sea to be delivered
to the reception office shall be borne by
the applicant.
In the event the reception office and return
office are not the same, the applicant shall
pay for any additional expenses. Shipment
of entries must be handled by forwarders
specializing in the delivery of artworks.
They must not be delivered via the post
office. Door-to-door will not be applicable
for art pieces at the customs office when
using the post office, in which event the
WOCEF shall not bear any responsibility
for any additional charges such as custom
clearance and transportation to the reception
office.
* Door-to-door(nail-to-nail) refers to the
delivery of entry from the place of departure
to the place of arrival.
* WOCEF shall not be responsible for any
damage or loss incurred during the trasport
of arriving at the reception office. Special
care in packaging the art piece by the applicant
is required to prevent damages during transportation
*Precautions
for packaging art pieces
a. Wrap each art piece
in air caps, if possible, to ensure safe
delivery. Fill wooden crates with sponge
or styrofoam chips and pack firmly to withstand
external impacts.
b. Place label stickers
provided by WOCEF on the outside of wooden
crates.
c. Fill out a Condition
Report and enclose it with the art piece.
* More details will be provided individually
to applicants who pass the preliminary screening.
10. Insurance
1) Overseas
- Applicants shall purchase insurance during
the period prescribed by the WOCEF.
- The WOCEF shall not bear responsibility
for any problems that may arise by the applicants'
failure to carry insurance. In the event
the applicant does not provide an insured
value, the WOCEF shall set a value at its
own discretion for smooth insurance process.
The insurance value is irrelevant to the
appraised value of art pieces.
Term of Insurance
- Insurance paid by applicant: From arrival
of entry to January 8, 2005
- Insurance paid by WOCEF: From January
8, 2005 to the return of art pieces.
* Partial damage to art pieces before arrival
shall be discussed with the applicant as
to whether exhibition of art piece will
be possible. The final decision shall be
made by WOCEF based on the degree of damage,
in which case the responsible party shall
be identified and the restoration work conducted
by the WOCEF.
11. Notice
a. Submitted documents
shall not be returned.
b. Any entry found not
to match the preliminary slides or found
incomplete shall be disqualified.
c. Any entry that has been
publicized or confirmed to be a reproduction
of another artwork shall be disqualified
upon the decision of the panel.
d. Any slide or art piece
that fails to arrive by the deadline posted
by WOCEF shall be excluded for the screening.
e. All entries that pass
the preliminary screening(contestants) shall
be exhibited during the Biennale. The winner
of the Grand Prize through the winners of
the Special Awards shall be selected during
the secondary screening. However, any entry
that has arrived damaged or disqualified
by the panel shall be excluded from the
exhibition and automatically removed from
the list of contestants.
f. Method of display of
art pieces during the exhibition shall be
determined by the WOCEF.
g. Entries shall not be
allowed out of the exhibition during the
prescribed period.
h. Any matter other than
those described above shall be determined
upon discussion by the WOCEF and the panel.
