
The World Ceramic Biennale 2003 Korea showcased
the varied trends in contemporary
ceramic arts, promoted the development of ceramic
culture in the 21st century, and presented a vision
for the future. The 2nd CEBIKO at Icheon, Gwangju,
and Yeoju celebrated the diversity of ceramic
cultures together with ceramic artists and ceramic
lovers from around the world.
The 1st World Ceramic Biennale, held during the
World Ceramic Expo 2001 Korea, strengthened the
foundation of our unique ceramic culture. The
World Ceramic Expo 2001 Korea attracted more than
six million visitors from 84 countries, and was
widely hailed as a watershed event in the ceramic
art world. The International Competition, International
Ceramic Symposium, International Ceramic Workshop,
and exhibitions of the Biennale engaged many of
the world¡¯s most renowned ceramic artists and
scholars. A total of 5,206 works by 2,019 artists
from 69 countries were entered into the International
Competition alone. The World Ceramic Biennale
has truly become a global festival of culture
and art.
The World Ceramic Exposition Foundation gained
fruitful result after exerting its best effort
to prepare for the 2nd World Ceramic Biennale.
Absolutely, the 2nd Biennale served as a venue
for the discussion of new issues in contemporary
ceramic art. It also improved the understanding
of ceramic culture and shaped the future of ceramic
art. The enthusiasm and momentum of the World
Ceramic Expo 2001 Korea and the 2nd World Ceramic
Exposition have carried forward to the 3rd World
Ceramic Biennale 2005 Korea.
